Sixteenth Jain Tirthankara

Bhagvan Shantinath dev: was born in Gajpur, on thirteenth day of the dark half of the month of Jyeshta. His father name was King Vishvasen and Mother name was Achira Devi. After long span of life time ,he took diksha on the 14th day of the dark half of the month of Jyeshta along with 1000 other men’s.

After 1 year of diksha and worldly life abandonment Lord Shantinath attained (kevalgyan )salvation on the 9th day of the bright half of the month of Paush and constellation of Pushpa .

On the thirteenth day of the dark half of the month of Jyeshta , Bhagwan Shantinath, along with other 900 saints was liberated and attained nirvana on Sammet Shikhar (mountain).

Bhagwan Shantinath lived for 1 lakh years of which he spent 25000years as an ascetics and -1 year of Meditation and Spiritual Practices (sahdana/tap).

It is believed that Shantinath prabhu was 40 measure of bow(at that time unit of measurement was bow i.e. bow of bow & arrow) in height.
